Depression

What is Depression?

According to the bible of psychiatry, DSM IV, a diagnosis of depression (otherwise known as unipolar depression) can be made when five of the following symptoms are present for at least two weeks:

  • Sad, depressed mood, most of the day, nearly every day
  • Loss of interest and pleasure in usual activities
  • Sleeping difficulties
  • Changes in level of activity – either lethargic or agitated
  • Changes in appetite and bodyweight
  • Loss of energy, great fatigue
  • Lack of self-confidence; self-blame and self-reproach, feeling guilty and worthless
  • Difficulty in concentrating – slow thinking, indecision
  • Thoughts of suicide or death

How Hypnotherapy Can Help Depression

The core drivers of depression are powerful emotional experiences of shame (lack of self-confidence, feeling useless and “no good”) and guilt (self-reproach and blame, being a burden to people, “I shouldn’t be feeling this way”). Analytical hypnotherapy uses the natural healing and resolving mechanisms of your mind to find and remove the original source of these feelings, gently but quickly, allowing you to live your life free from all of the old baggage.

Depression is often only the “tip of the iceberg” for us emotionally. Analytical hypnotherapy’s power, to resolve bottled-up emotion and old emotional conflicts, does more than rid you of your depression – it frees up your core personality. Clients report that they have never “felt so much like themselves”; they “can’t believe it was ever possible to feel this good.”
